Mrs. Torneten has been teaching music in the Omaha area for the past twenty years, both privately and in the classroom. Mrs. Torneten has a bachelor degree in voice and piano from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and a minor in English. She received a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Nebraska Omaha. She also has a Masters Degree in English as a Second Language from Creighton University with a minor in special education. As part of her studies, she spend a summer in Kerala, India, studying Carnatic music and loves singing bhajans. Mrs. "T" received her Kodaly levels through Nebraska Wesleyan and UNO. She has also completed Orff Level I. Torneten has completed Level I World Music Drumming in Denver, CO, and Level II World Music Drumming in Iowa City, IA, under master Ghanian drummer, Sowah Mensah.
Mrs. "T" sings with the Opera Omaha Chorus and has appeared with the Omaha Symphony several times. She lives with her husband, daughter, and lots of instruments! Her favorite things to do are teach children music and perform music. She also loves traveling and spending time with her family.
Welcome To Music Class
This year, we will be studying rhythms, melodic contour and line, reading and notating music, and learning about music in relation to history and culture in accordance with the Nebraska Fine Arts Standards. We will be learning folk and popular dances as well as other movement activities. We will be following the National and Nebraska Fine Arts Standards for Music Education and the Omaha Public Schools music curriculum.
Students have the opportunity to join the following ensembles: Strings (grades 4,5,6) Band (grades 5,6) Chorus (5,6) Drum Club (4,5, & 6)
